You have a great product or service… Now, how should you market it?
This is where most people fail; they lack a proper marketing plan. It’s no good in having a great product if you don’t know how to sell it. For marketers, planning is an essential task that must be continually undertaken. Yet most people plunging in the home business niche do not have a proper marketing plan for their online business.
A marketing plan may be part of your overall business plan. However, whether you are creating a short plan intended to cover a narrow time frame or a full-blown document laying out plans for a year or more, all plan requires undertaking significant market research to better understand the market.
With knowledge of the market, you can then begin to build the plan which should include the following key components:
*Mission – It’s the guiding force that identifies the long-run vision for what you hope to achieve.
*Objectives – It reflects what you expect to achieve with your marketing efforts. It can be in the form of financial goals or marketing goals.
*Marketing Strategy - Achieving objectives requires engagement in marketing decision-making which indicates where resources (e.g., marketing budget) will be directed. However, before spending begins on individual marketing decisions like -where to advertise, you need to establish a general plan of action that summarizes what will be done to reach the stated objectives.
*Tactical Action Plan – Marketing strategy sets the stage for specific actions that will take place. Marketing tactics are the day-to-day actions that you should undertake. This is the key area of the Marketing Plan since it explains exactly what will be done to reach the objectives.
